Dish Network DVR have most of the recording and storage space available in the industry. However, with all the great programming available in these days, the need for more storage space may eventually become a problem. Consider a DVR unit as an external hard drive solution. Dish Network ViP-series DVR is compatible with USB 2.0 hard drives. These units can increase your DVR storage capacity of over 400 hours of recording standard digital and nearly 100 hours of HD recording.
An external hard drive (HDD) saves all the favorites and not be forced to eliminate a program to make room for more. Dish Network has announced that any future DVR manufactured will be compatible with this technology, but for now, Dish has three working models, the ViP612 DVR, ViP622 DVR and ViP722 DVR.
To start, just connect a compatible USB 2.0 hard drive to a network compatible with Dish receiver. You can see the contents of the HDD, or transfer content back to the DVR. All major external HDD brand is sold in stores are compatible. Although USB is the choice most popular hard drives, it is preferable to use one with an external power source. Which ever you choose, be sure to devote the unit only for DVR. Using the hard disk for computer files can cause the corruption of its programming content.
When the hard drive is connected for the first time, you prompted to reformat the drive – If you choose, anything previously stored on the drive will be lost. If you choose not to re-format will not be able to transfer the content your DVR. Be sure to remove anything of importance before formatting.
Support Dish Network DVR receivers have two USB 2.0 ports on the rear panel. At this time only one device like a hard drive or a PocketDISH device can be connected to the receiver at a time. If you connect two devices at the same time the DVR will simply ignore the last connected device. The trick here is to completely install and format on the DVR device first, then install and format a second if you wish. This will allow you to spend a record of, say one for movies and sports. If you decide to remove the hard disk can view or download the content to other DVR receivers compatible however, the recipient must be registered on behalf of a client.
The transfer of content is easy with Dish Networks' easy interface use. Since the multimedia menu dish simply select USB storage. From here you will be given two options, and manage devices – this will allow see a list of programs already stored on the hard drive and sending devices – this is the option to transfer programming from the list of my DVR recordings in HDD for DVR receiver. If a program on your DVR contains the copy protection can affect your ability to transfer the hard drive. If he does, a message will pop up with more information appear. For more information on www.dishnetwork.com protection copies restrictions of access and search for "copy protection."
Manage devices inside you'll find options to restore — scheduling of transfer of hard disk receiver back to the DVR, Game – see direct programming from the HDD and Delete – Delete the program from the HDD.
