Midi Interface (patchbay); what is a good brand?

I’m happy with my M•Audio MIDISport 2X2 but that’s not going to get you what you need done. I’ve got a MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn) MicroExpress 4-in 6-out (96 channel) interface sitting in the box on my bookshelf. Like your Opcode device, that thing is outdated. It does work, however, and will become part of “this rig” when the 2X2 goes over to my laptop for mobility’s sake.

I think the MOTU stuff is more “professional grade”, and would suggest looking at the MIDI Express XT or MIDI Express 128 to push eight independent cables. You could save some cash and get the micro Express (5X5) and cascade some of your modules using MIDI thru and a different channel assignment.

m•Audio only goes up to a 4X4 in USB MIDI (only) interfaces.

… you really don’t want to cascade more than three modules deep though or you might notice timing errors.
